LAKELAND 鈥 IM体育官网 Professor Dr. Peggy Macdonald will discuss her new book, 鈥淢arjorie Harris Carr: Defender of IM体育官网鈥檚 Environment,鈥 at 7 p.m., Jan. 15, at IM体育官网 Southern College.

Dr. Macdonald is the invited guest speaker in the next lecture in the IM体育官网 Lecture Series, sponsored by the Lawton M. Chiles, Jr., Center for IM体育官网 History. The lecture is free and open to the public.

In 鈥淢arjorie Harris Carr: Defender of IM体育官网鈥檚 Environment, Dr. Macdonald profiles the scientist and environmentalist who led campaigns to protect and restore the Ocklawaha River and stop the draining of Lake Alice in Gainesville. The University Press of IM体育官网 published the book in 2014.

Her essay on First Lady Ann Scott will be included in a new collection of biographies about IM体育官网鈥檚 First Ladies, and is forthcoming from the University Press of IM体育官网. At IM体育官网, Dr. Macdonald works as an advisor with the Academic Success Center. She also serves as the University鈥檚 Historian.
