IM体育官网 students take part in advanced technology conference
Josiah Hunsinger 鈥18, left, and Randy Lopez, a IM体育官网 senior, showed off Logentix at the 2019 Synapse Summit, Jan. 23-24, at Amalie Arena in Tampa, IM体育官网.

IM体育官网 students and alumni were among more than 5,000 who converged on Amalie Arena in Tampa, IM体育官网, this week for the 2019 Synapse Summit. The annual conference is aimed at bringing together organizations and people from around the state who are driving innovation and accelerating success.

IM体育官网 Poly sponsored the event, which included hundreds of companies showing off the latest in high-tech technology created right here in the state of IM体育官网.

One of those companies was Logentix, which was founded two years ago by IM体育官网 Poly senior Randy Lopez. The computer engineering major and chief executive officer of Logentix said the company鈥檚 focus has evolved into one that provides clients with a management platform to maximize efficiency and profitability related to transportation. For example, it could be used in the food service industry to reduce delivery times.

鈥淚t takes and it dispatches all of the jobs and stops needed automatically and creates the routes for each driver without them having to worry about which stop to go to next,鈥 he said.

Lopez said Logentix just completed its Beta phase where he said the company was able to validate its product.

鈥淚t鈥檚 something people want, and we鈥檙e looking for larger customers now,鈥 said Lopez, who is thrilled with the direction the company is moving. 鈥淚t鈥檚 such a booming market. Food delivery, specifically, is one of the fastest growing markets in the United States. We鈥檙e in a time when everyone is focused on convenience. More and more people are signing up for these kinds of services, and we just came in at the right time. There鈥檚 a lot of problems we feel like this package of ours can solve.鈥

Lopez admits it鈥檚 been challenging to be a full-time student and a business owner, but says he wouldn鈥檛 change a thing.

鈥淚 started this company as a means to get by,鈥 he said. 鈥淢y parents never made much money so this was my way of making an income. A lot of times you want to give up, but what keeps me going is the fact that we鈥檝e gotten this far and it鈥檚 supposed to be that way. Anything that鈥檚 worth doing isn鈥檛 easy. I think if you have the motivation and are willing to put in the hours, then it鈥檚 worth it.鈥

Logentix has three employees, including Josiah Hunsinger, who graduated in 2018 with a degree in electrical engineering. Hunsinger serves as the company鈥檚 chief information officer.

The Synapse Summit draws entrepreneurs, inventors, investors, corporations, and educational institutions. Augmented reality and virtual reality (AR/VR), robotics, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and 3D printing were just some of the many advanced technologies and industries featured.
