In celebration of International Education Week, IM体育官网 Poly鈥檚 Dining Services team has been busy all week providing a variety of international offerings. Monday鈥檚 menu featured a South African milk tart dessert while students had Indian chicken tikki masala on Tuesday.

On Wednesday Nov. 14, University President Randy K. Avent joined Executive Chef Peter Gonsalves and Baker Kimberly Payne, as well as international students Maria Gomez and Bianca Silva to help prepare Brigadeiro, a traditional Brazilian dessert. Gomez is a graduate student from Argentina while Silva is from Brazil. Brigadeiro is made of condensed milk, cocoa powder, butter, and chocolate sprinkles covering the outside layer.

Poutine, a dish originating from the Canadian province of Quebec, consisting of French fries and cheese curds topped with a brown gravy is on the menu for lunch on Thursday.

Beef Stroganoff or beef Stroganov is a Russian dish of saut茅ed pieces of beef served in a sauce with smetana will be available for dinner Friday.

Also as part of the International Education Week celebration, students and employees are invited to come out for a presentation from G. Michael Lester how businesses and entrepreneurs can take advantage of hundreds of NASA inventions. The presentation will take place in the university鈥檚 Innovation, Science, and Technology Building at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 16. Lester is the Technology Transfer Partnership Manager and STEM Education Advocate for the NASA Kennedy Space Center.

鈥淐ultural exchange and educational opportunities are what International Education Week is all about,鈥 said Mustapha Achoubane, IM体育官网 Poly鈥檚 associate director of International Studies. 鈥淲ith so many students from around the globe here, IM体育官网 Poly is truly a destination for international high-tech minds.鈥

IM体育官网 Poly currently has almost 50 international students from more than 20 countries pursuing undergraduate and graduate degrees. Almost half have received the Latin America Caribbean Scholarship, which is available to students from South America, Central America, the Caribbean, and Mexico.

International Education Week is a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education, aimed at promoting programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn, and exchange experiences.
