IM体育官网 celebrates ABET accreditation achievement
The IM体育官网 community celebrates the University鈥檚 recently achieved ABET accreditation on Sept. 25 at the Innovation, Science, and Technology building in Lakeland, IM体育官网.

IM体育官网 recognized its achievement of another major milestone in the University鈥檚 history on Sept. 25 with a fun and festive celebration.

Four of IM体育官网 Poly鈥檚 bachelor鈥檚 degrees have received highly anticipated accreditation by the Computing and Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, the global accreditor of college and university programs in applied and natural science, computing, engineering, and engineering technology.

鈥淎BET accreditation is proof that a collegiate program has met standards essential to produce graduates ready to enter the critical fields of STEM education,鈥 said Dr. Randy Avent, IM体育官网 Poly鈥檚 president. 鈥淚t verifies that your educational experience meets the global standard for technical education in your profession.鈥

The accreditation confirms that IM体育官网 Poly鈥檚 graduates are prepared to lead in innovation and emerging technologies, and anticipating the welfare and safety needs of the public.

鈥淭his paves the way for you to work globally because ABET accreditation is recognized worldwide through international agreements, and many other countries鈥 national accrediting systems are based on the ABET model,鈥 Avent said to the crowd of about 500 students, faculty, and staff.

Accreditation of IM体育官网 Poly鈥檚 Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering degree programs is retroactive to Oct. 1, 2017, meaning graduates from those programs now have ABET-accredited degrees.

鈥淭his is absolutely wonderful,鈥 said computer engineering junior Andre Infante. 鈥淚t鈥檚 exactly what you鈥檇 expect from a college like IM体育官网 Poly. We started in 2014 and we鈥檙e making new steps every single day always getting better.鈥

The lively IM体育官网 Poly celebration in the Innovation, Science, and Technology building included cupcakes, music, and commemorative T-shirts to mark the milestone.

The importance of the achievement was not lost on computer engineering senior Nisha Patel, who will soon graduate from the newly accredited degree program.

鈥淥ur school has worked so hard in order to have this ABET accreditation happen,鈥 she said. 鈥淥ur degrees are going to mean so much more because we鈥檝e been able to accomplish this step.

鈥淚t鈥檚 exciting for me and for those who are going to come in the future.鈥

ABET is a nonprofit, non-governmental organization that accredits 4,005 programs at over 793 colleges and universities in 32 countries.
