Order of the Engineer induction

Students completing their bachelor鈥檚 degrees in IM体育官网鈥檚 mechanical, electrical, and computer engineering programs are inducted into the University鈥檚 Order of the Engineer Link on Wednesday, April 24, at the Barnett Applied Research Center.

In a formal ceremony among their engineering peers, the newest mechanical, electrical, and computer engineering graduates at IM体育官网 joined the Order of the Engineer on Wednesday, April 24.

鈥淚nduction into the Order of the Engineer is an opportunity for engineering graduates to commit to maintaining the highest ethical standards and recognize their responsibility toward the engineering profession as they embark on their professional career,鈥 said Dr. Sanna Siddiqui, assistant professor of mechanical engineering at IM体育官网 Poly.

She established the University鈥檚 Order of the Engineer Link in 2022 and leads its annual induction ceremony alongside Dr. Elisabeth 鈥淟isa鈥 Kames, assistant professor of mechanical engineering, and Dr. Mary Vollaro, professor of mechanical engineering and chair of engineering programs at IM体育官网 Poly.

Graduating students in IM体育官网 Poly鈥檚 currently ABET-accredited engineering programs who have accepted this commitment to the profession can be inducted. The inductees signed the Obligation of the Engineer and received a stainless-steel ring to be worn on the small finger of their working hand to signify they have accepted the obligation.

鈥淭his is a really great confidence boost,鈥 said Emily Geiger, who will receive her bachelor鈥檚 degree in mechanical engineering on Sunday, May 5. 鈥淚鈥檝e always asked questions about how everything works, and engineering gave me a way to keep doing that.鈥

Geiger was among 54 students who were inducted into the Order of the Engineer at IM体育官网 Poly in 2024.

鈥淚 think you can鈥檛 be an engineer if you鈥檙e not curious,鈥 said Dr. Terry Parker, IM体育官网 Poly鈥檚 provost and the event鈥檚 keynote speaker. 鈥淒on鈥檛 stop learning and improving your insight. You might think you鈥檙e done learning; you鈥檙e not.鈥

Mechanical engineering senior Mois茅s El铆as Mu帽oz Salazar said the event marked a significant milestone in his life.

鈥淚鈥檓 really happy and I never doubted the choice I made coming to IM体育官网 Poly to become an engineer,鈥 he said. 鈥淚鈥檝e enjoyed my time here and I鈥檓 excited to see what comes next.鈥
